Shipwreck! Red Storm Rising II

Howdie.  Been a looooooong time since my last blog post, just been too busy.  However, a couple of days ago I decided I needed to finish a project (any project).  I looked at this mass of unpainted 1:3000 Navwar Cold War Soviet ships I had, unpainted, sitting in their "berth" shelf, and decided THAT (Red Storm Rising Part I) was the project to finish.

Once I got started, they really just came together very quickly.  The Navwar miniatures are nice, and very affordable.  There were a couple of things to note, but otherwise, I still could not be happier with this bunch.  Each has an attached ID, with class and specific name (or designation for unnamed vessels).  Also, all the Soviet Naval vessels have a Soviet Naval Ensign.  These I printed out as I didn't think I could paint them accurately at this scale :)

Here are the heavies, carriers and battle cruisers.... Admiral Kuznetzov, Baku (modified Kiev), Moskva, Kirov, and Frunze (modified Kirov)...

Now, I did mix up the paint schemes on vessels of the same class, as I noticed the Soviets were not entirely consistent themselves.  It gave me a little bit more to do, but then it also makes some vessels stand out from each other more.  Here are my "work horses".... 3x Slava, 3x Udaloy, 3x Sovremenney, 1x Udaloy II (Admiral Chabanenko), and 1x Kara....

Here are the Soviet wild cards, their submarines... 3x Typhoon (BIG!  also, one is named Red October, just in case...), 3x Sierra, 3x Victor, 4x Kilo, and 4x Alfa....

But it can't be all big and dangerous stuff, you need some little guys.... 4x Krivak, 8x Grisha, 3x Pauk, and 3x Tarantul...

I also invested in some amphibious warfare and support vessels... 1x Ivan Rogov, 2x Alligator LST, and 1x Boris Chilkin fleet oiler...

For scenario purposes, I also purchased some neutral (un-flagged) cargo ships... 1x super tanker (Esso America), 2x cargo ships, and 1x Petr Gutshenko (which is a Soviet dry small bulk carrier)...

And here is the mighty fleet, tucked away in their jumbled berths at the home port...

Quite a fleet!  I also have, still in the bag and unpainted, 1x Sverdlov, 3x Akula, 3x Delta, and 1x Berezina fleet supply, plus a whole bunch of aircraft.  Honestly, there is no way I will use these all, now that I can see them in one place.  I likely will split off a small portion (1/4 or 1/3) and sell them as a lot, which would leave me "plenty" to game with.  But that is another day.... because this day we celebrate the might of the Soviet Navy!  May the capitalist gangsters tremble in their cowboy boots!

Dasvidanya, comrades!
